About
Us
Woodseats
Advice Centre is staffed by 10 full or part-time paid workers and a team of
approximately 24 volunteers.
We offer a drop-in service and telephone
advice for people within postal areas S8 and S17. For specialist advice or for some lengthy interviews an
appointment can be made. We also arrange home visits for the housebound (older people or
people with disabilities) within our area. We regret that we are unable to offer an email
advice service.
There are outreach sessions at Lowedges and Totley. Our Families Outreach Worker works specifically
with families on Lowedges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe, providing home visits where necessary.
In addition to our generalist advice sessions we hold outreach
sessions at the Haematology and Oncology Department of Sheffield
Children's Hospital, the Cancer Information & Support Centre at Weston Park,
the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit and NeuroRehabilitation
Centre at the Northern General Hospital, giving welfare benefits advice to
families and
carers of patients receiving care in the departments.
The Advice Centre is grant-aided by Sheffield
City Council but is run by an independent management committee. We are a member of Advice UK (formerly the Federation of Independent
Advice Centres, FIAC) and have obtained the Quality Mark of the Community Legal Service.
We are grateful to all of our sponsors
without whom we could not carry out our work.
